9-Mar-23 An Introduction to Agile

Presentation Description What is agile? It’s a method that revolutionized software development and gave us a flexible, customer-centered approach. Agile helps organizations stay competitive in fast-changing situations by partnering with customers to create better results more quickly. Its effectiveness inspired companies across industries adopting it for large projects and fast environments. The industry standard Waterfall methodology fell short when accommodating for change. So, people sought alternative approaches such as Extreme Programming, Scrum, and Dynamic Systems Development Method which have helped pave the way for Agile today. Agile started in 2001 with an interesting small group of individuals. Join us for a lively discussion about the history of the agile movement, the Agile Manifesto and key characteristics that define an agile company. About the speaker Richard Gower’s distinguished career began in software programming for British Rail nearly 40 years ago. He developed his skills and worked from entry level all the way to VP. His roles included project management, business analysis, software development, quality assurance, implementation and customer support. Today, Richard holds the VP of Computing, Data Science and Technology position at DeLoach Enterprise Science, a company focused on water resources and civil engineering. He is PMP (Project Management Professional) certified with Project management Institute and a Scrum Alliance Certified ScrumMaster. Richard’s experience includes all phases of software development including water and agile methodologies. He gets that one size doesn’t fit all, so he adapts strategies, methods, tools, and tactics based on his company and customers.
